A Brief Information about Richmond International Raceway Speedway

Richmond International Raceway is a 3/4 mile, D shaped, asphalt racetrack located outside Richmond, Virginia. It is located at the Richmond Raceway Complex, which is an 800 acre, multi-purpose facility.

The track hosts the NASCAR Nextel Cup, Busch Series, Craftsman Truck Series and the Featherlite Modified Series. Richmond International Raceway also hosts the Indy Racing League IndyCar Series, and the United States Auto Club Silver Crown Series.

Richmond International Raceway’s unique, .75-mile layout produces tremendous side-by-side racing, yet drivers obtain high enough speeds to give it a superspeedway feel. The rare combination still allows for the beating and banging fans love, with the drivers' skill playing a major role.

Lights were added to the facility in 1991. Richmond International Raceway is the only track to hold all of its events "under the lights." The track hosts both NASCAR weekends under the lights and its 100,000 permanent seats are always sold out for the Cup Series events.
